Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs

If you remember Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs from Psychology class, we tend to satisfy the lowest level of need first before we can move on to the next. The most basic of these levels is the Physiological Needs wherein our body feels the need to eat, drink, sleep, breath and reproduce without even thinking about it. After satisfying these basic needs, we think of Security and Safety. We seek something to provide us income, to ensure the health and safety of our whole family. These first two levels require a small amount of money but not a lot of thought to be satisfied. After establishing the stability of the two, we go on to the next level with deeper needs. We seek relationships. We feel the need to belong, to love and be loved. And so we build friendships. The fourth level then makes us aim for achievement, confidence and respect. We realize that after we build relationships, we also want to feel that people look up to us. We now want to prove something out of our experiences with others. We now want to have value. When these needs are not met, we feel weak and sad and frustrated. Finally, when people overcome their weaknesses and all the four levels of needs are satisfied, that is the perfect moment when the need for self-actualization presents itself, coming from the depths of our being. In this final fulfillment of needs, people realize what they were born to do. To reach our full potential. To do whatever it takes. To utilize our God given talents for His glory, to be a blessing to others, to be an inspiration to all. A lot of the unfortunate in the Philippines and the rest of the world can't even get past the first two levels of needs. You are fortunate enough to have overcome them. All of us are in search for that one thing that defines who we are. What are you born to do? When will you do it?
